The Midwest premiere of a one-act oriental fairy tale from the composer
of Carmen. 
 
A little-known gem, this delightful opera follows the devoted,
beautiful Djamileh in her quest to win over the blasae young nobleman
Haroun. The sparkling mosaics of Preston Bradley Hall serve as the
backdrop to this tale of love in an Egyptian palace, and a pre-show
performance of music for oud and percussion explores the sounds of
the Turkish nobleman's court, setting the scene for an evocative evening.
 
The opera is directed by Patrizia Acerra and features Katherine Pracht,
mezzo-soprano; Cornelius Johnson tenor; Bill McMurray, baritone, with
members of the New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago under the direction
of Maestro Francesco Milioto.

Chicago Chamber Orchestra opens its 57th season with Dieter Kober, who holds the record for the longest tenure in the world as music director of a professional orchestra, conducting. The program includes Bach’s fourth Brandenburg Concerto, Giuseppi Tartini’s Violin Concerto in D minor, Frank Abbinanti’s Ostalgie, and a continuation of the ensemble’s Haydn cycle with his Symphony No.70 in D major.
